Keep up to speed and follow all the latest Red Bull Rampage 2026 updates as we head towards the two-day showdown in Virgin, Utah, US, between October 08-10.
The 2026 edition of Red Bull Rampage will mark the event’s 25th anniversary and its 20th running, returning to the iconic desert terrain of Virgin in Southwest Utah.
On Thursday, October 8, the world’s top female freeride mountain bike athletes will compete for the third time in the event’s history. The top male freeriders will then take to the mountain on Saturday, October 10 to contest the coveted Red Bull Rampage trophy.
Red Bull Rampage challenges mountain bike athletes to make it down the steep, rocky mountainside in one piece by riding a line of their choice. While it isn’t a race, there is a start and finish line, and each rider – along with two diggers – has several days to link the two by building as creative and spectacular a line as possible using only hand tools and the natural terrain.
The mountain doesn’t have a natural route down, so athletes must traverse it and jump across sections to find a viable way. Riders determine a line that best suits their style, performing tricks along the way or showcasing pure technical riding skill.
There’s no timing at Red Bull Rampage and it isn’t a race against the clock. On finals day, each rider gets two runs to ride their line from top to bottom. A panel of judges scores each run, and the athlete with the highest single run wins the event.
Red Bull Rampage is an invite-only event. Based on the 2025 results, the top four finishers in each category received an automatic entry for 2026, with the remaining spots filled by wildcards selected by a committee of former competitors, pro athletes, judges and industry experts.

DIGGING & FIRST HITS:
Both women’s and men’s athletes are already in Virgin, Utah, on the ground and actively digging and shaping their lines ahead of finals, using the days on site to refine their chosen routes and test key features before competition.
The 2026 edition is back at the original 2001 event site in the Virgin desert, marking a full-circle moment for the 25th anniversary of Red Bull Rampage and bringing riders to the same iconic terrain where the event began.
The venue is almost untouched, giving riders greater creative freedom to design unique lines but also demanding more time and effort to carve viable routes down the mountain, as the pristine conditions mean more terrain to shape by hand.
The starting gate is the same for both categories, reducing available space at the top and meaning some riders will share parts of their lines, especially in the upper sections of the mountain, which adds an extra layer of strategy to line choice and dig planning.

“It’s going well, it’s super warm so physically challenging and a new venue. We asked for it, we have it – now we have to deal with it and find our way down. But I think it’s shaping up really well for everyone.” – Thomas Genon
“This is my second Red Bull Rampage, so I have a little bit more experience coming in which is nice, but we’re at a whole new venue which means there’s nothing here that was built in the past to start with, we’re all just starting with a mountain side and turning it into the venue that we will be riding in the competition.” -Hannah Bergemann
“It feels like it’s a lot more this year – there’s a lot more features, a lot more mountain, a lot more people and it’s way hotter than last year.” – Harriet Burbidge-Smith

“It’s crazy to be out here. Just digging away, trying to find your way down the valley.” – Kade Edwards
“The guys are working really hard, it’s hot today so we’re trying to save our energy a bit as well. The work is non-stop and we just need to be sure that we are fully covered from the sun.” – Camila Nogueira
