Spaniard excels at British GP as Márquez ends fourth and Acosta claims fifth for Red Bull KTM.

Spaniard Jorge Martín hit back from a problem on the opening lap to finish second behind compatriot Raúl Fernández and extend his 2026 MotoGP title lead to 31 points as Álex Márquez and Pedro Acosta also claimed top-five placings. Here is all you need to know:

– 2024 MotoGP world champion Martín led every lap of Saturday afternoon’s Sprint Race to finish clear of Japan’s Ai Ogura and title rival Marco Bezzecchi with Márquez fourth for K8 Gresini Ducati.

– Sunday’s race saw Martín struggle to disengage his ride height device at Turn 1 on the opening lap to slip back a few places, however he got back ahead of Bezzecchi at Farm curve by the ninth lap.

– Trackhouse Aprilia MotoGP rider Fernández capitalised on Martín’s early problem to move clear over the course of the race and win by 2.538s as Martín fended off Italian Bezzecchi to finish second.

– After increasing his title lead from 14 to 31 points after an impressive weekend, Martín, 28, said: “I tried to recover as fast as possible, but my strategy was compromised. When I got into second, already Raúl had like five seconds. I thought maybe his tyre was going to drop, but he managed amazingly.”

– Martín endured a difficult 2025 due to injury and he added: “Two years ago, I was really obsessed with always trying to be in front, trying to be on the lead. But this honestly takes a lot of energy. Now I’m just focusing to be a better Jorge and I’m in the lead. This weekend was perfect. I was able to not change the set-up.”
