Australian Rhiannan Iffland drew on all her experience to pull out a brilliant final dive to edge out Canada’s Molly Carlson at the Mostar stop and seal her 10th Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series title in a row as Romanian Constantin Popovici won a men’s thriller. Here is all you need to know:
– Iffland knew going into the latest 2026 season stop that victory could seal the historic 10th title with a stop to spare, if she could triumph in the city down the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
– The 34-year-old had to be on top form again as Carlson put down a stunning Inward 3 Somersaults ½ Twist Tuck to earn 9s from the judges, however the unflappable Iffland took on the same dive and ripped effortlessly into the Neretva River to match her and maintain her 1.6 point advantage.
– It meant her 10th King Kahekili Trophy could be held aloft thanks to an unassailable 27-point gap to Carlson with compatriot Xantheia Pennisi third on the day after another strong performance.
– After wowing the 23,000 fans who packed the historic venue across three days of competition in sweltering 40c at Stari Most, Iffland said: “I knew deep down in my heart that it wasn’t going to be an easy one today. I knew Molly wasn’t going to leave without putting up a good fight.”
– Her 48th win in 59 stops also moved her ahead of Gary Hunt in the all-time wins list and she added: “I’m super stoked, and I guess it’s time to process and then celebrate. 48 out of 50 something starts, it’s nuts. I guess the recipe really comes down to passion and drive, and hard work. There is no secret recipe to being so consistent. Practice, practice, practice and it paid off for me.”
– With Mostar celebrating its 10th anniversary, the crowd were treated to an epic men’s battle as well on the back of 2026 title leader Aidan Heslop’s wish to pull further clear of his rivals.
– Briton Heslop kick-started the action with a huge Forward 4 Somersaults 3½ Twist Pike, collecting two 8.5s and an 8 from the judges to leap from seventh place into the lead with Popovici following up with an Arm Back 3 ½ Somersaults 3 Twists Pike to claim top spot by just 0.1 of a point.
– With Frenchman Hunt, American James Lichtenstein and Spain’s Carlos Gimeno unable to overtake the duo, it meant Popovici locked in his second victory in a row ahead of the Polignano a Mare finale.
– After earning his fourth Stari Most win – the most of any male – to move third overall, Popovici, 37, said: “I feel like I should win more here. It’s really nice, I feel like home here. Of course, today was a bit close, but four rounds, very good. Nothing is impossible. I’m going to go there (Italy), of course, a bit more relaxed. Because the pressure is on Aidan, maybe James.”
– Following a blisteringly hot few days – where the athletes also honoured the local diving tradition by leaping directly off the old bridge in Round 1 – they will now enjoy an extended two-month break before the season finale in Polignano a Mare on September 27 where the men’s champion will be crowned.
