For the third year in a row we received the opportunity to sit down with Mickey Leech, the CEO of Schumacher Electric. The best thing about doing an interview with a CEO for three straight years is you get to see the thinking behind changes. You also get to see how the company combats different yearly challenges.
Our first year interviewing Mickey was in 2023. The Economy was rough at that point. Inflation was at an all time high. And A.I. in the industry was just in it’s infancy. When we interviewed Mickey in 2024 it was on election day for the U.S. Presidential Race. There was a lot of uncertainty at that time in the world. In our interview this year there was more of the same. Inflation still a major aspect, “tariffs” has become a household word, and A.I. is now a major factor in all aspects of business.
One thing I have noticed through all of these interviews with Mickey over these last 3 years is, that he has maintained what I would call a steadiness. Yes, they are using A.I. Have they jumped fully in? Not 100%. When inflation took over prices, Schumacher did what they could to keep prices on their products from rising. And the same has gone into handling the effects of tariffs. I as a consumer myself can really appreciate that. These are volatile times in the consumer goods industry and Schumacher has done a fantastic job of weathering the storm.
We could tell from our first year interviewing Mickey that he is a down to earth type of guy. Which makes him super easy to interview. I’d think if I was an employee at Schumacher that’s what type of leadership I’d want to work for. It’s easy to see why Schumacher continues to be a staple in the power conversion market when they know how to weather the storms, as well staying focused on value and customer needs.
