Álex Márquez finished third in Sunday’s San Marino GP to solidify second place in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship standings behind older brother Marc as Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder rounded out the top 10 around the Misano track. Here is all you need to know:

– Márquez went into the weekend needing a strong showing to cut the gap to Marc in the rider standings and he finished second behind Italian Marco Bezzecchi in Saturday’s Sprint Race to do just that.

– Sunday, though, was a different affair altogether as Marc – who crashed after passing Bezzecchi on Saturday – quickly moved up from fourth to second and then claimed the lead at the halfway stage.

– With Álex behind the duo in third after a bad start, Bezzecchi replied by pushing Marc hard in the closing laps but the six-time MotoGP world champion held on to win by 0.568s with Álex third 7.734s behind.

– Álex, 29, said: “My initial plan was to lead the race, but it was not my best start. It was the only possibility. Marco and Marc were faster than me. I nearly crashed two or three times, so I said, ‘You have a big gap Álex, use your head’. I am surprised to be as fast as we were here.”

– Portuguese rider Oliveira rode well to finish in ninth for Pramac Yamaha just in front of South African Binder on his Red Bull KTM bike as reigning MotoGP champion Jorge Martin finished in 13th place.

– The Aprilia Racing rider suffered a technical problem on the sighting lap to the grid, which meant the Spaniard had to serve out a double long lap penalty for swapping bikes before the start of the race.

– Thai rider Somkiat Chantra and Frenchman Johann Zarco, who had an opening lap crash, finished at the back as Italian Enea Bastianini plus Spaniards Pedro Acosta and Maverick Viñales all failed to finish.
