LAS VEGAS – NOV. 4, 2025 – In honor of the 60th anniversary of the 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 “Super Snake” built for Carroll Shelby, Superformance and Shelby Legendary Cars today announced a line of Shelby edition CSX10000 Super Snake roadsters featuring 1,000HP during the SEMA show in Las Vegas. Each car will incorporate updates developed by Superformance over the years and be set up for a supercharged Ford “Godzilla” V8 engine.

“We launched the CSX10000 series at SEMA in 2023 with the 30th anniversary of the Shelby Licensed Superformance MKIII, which was a collaboration between Carroll Shelby Licensing and Superformance,” said Lance Stander, CEO of Superformance. “This next model celebrates a special car, CSX3015, custom built in 1966 by Shelby American for Carroll. That car is worth millions of dollars today and was the inspiration for the next generation Shelby Cobra Super Snake. We retained the bold lines of the original car while incorporating modern touches that collectors and enthusiasts want today.”

Shelby Cobra chassis CSX 3015 is legendary. It began life as a 427 competition roadster, one of 23 such racecars built. Originally used for a European promotional tour, the car made its way stateside in late 1966 for conversion to SC trim to make it street legal.

“Carroll Shelby decided to build the ultimate Cobra after watching the taillamps of his friend Stan Mullin’s Ferrari on their regular fast jaunts to Lake Tahoe,” said Stander. “He wanted more ‘bite’ from his Cobra, especially at the top end. In 1966, Shelby and his team installed a pair of Paxton superchargers with a reinforced automatic transmission in the lightweight roadster. According to stories from that period, Shelby exploded past Mullin at 140 MPH in the Cobra Super Snake, eating the Ferrari alive.”

An agreement with Carroll Shelby Licensing made the CSX10000 edition Shelby 427 Cobra Super Snake series possible. The car visually resembles the 1966 Shelby Cobra Super Snake with its unique hood, yet it is vastly customizable and modernized for aesthetic and functional purposes.

The CSX10000 leverages the safety-tested and performance-proven rectangular box frame that Superformance has developed. A heavy duty TIG welded ladder frame chassis with front and rear crumple zones, independent suspension with adjustable coil overs and unequal length A-arms. Wilwood power-assisted disc brakes are standard and optional power steering, ABS, Traction Control and AC are available.

The steel-reinforced fiberglass body is bonded to the chassis and is unstressed. This latest evolution of the roadster has made available, specially designed billet aluminum 18-inch wheels that with huge modern tires (335/30ZR18 at the rear and 275/35ZR18 in front).

The Super Snake rolling chassis is completely assembled and ready for a buyer to install their drivetrain. The car is engineered for installation of a supercharged Godzilla motor, a throwback from an earlier time. In addition to copious cubic inches, the 7.3L features overhead valves, pushrods, a camshaft located in its traditional spot in its robust iron block, and a forged steel crankshaft. With a unique tune and supercharger, the Super Snake has over 1,000 horsepower and 908 foot pounds of torque. The weight of the car varies between 2,400 and 2,660 pounds, depending on the combination of engine installed and exterior features.

The new car celebrates the first-generation Super Snake in its bones through the cockpit design and dash layout. The modern features of the interior include luxuriously upholstered and custom stitched leather and Alcantara for customers to specify from a variety of colors and stitching that complement the iconic styling.

There will only be 20 Shelby Cobra Super Snakes offered to commemorate this milestone; these cars will carry the CSX10000 numbers. Key features of the anniversary cars include:

  • Super Snake wide nose hood scoop
  • LED Headlights
  • Special color/stripe designs
  • Custom high back leather/Alcantara interior with Super Snake logo and custom gauges
  • Custom drop-down center console design
  • Billet shifter and ignition key enclosure with logo
  • Custom carbon fiber steering wheel
  • Serialized Super Snake plaque
  • Commemorative badging interior and exterior
  • Options include a blackout package, low profile Lexan windshield, AC, power steering, ABS, traction control and custom lap belts
  • Shelby anniversary 18-inch billet Wheel and Tire package.

“The Shelby Cobra Super Snake honors the mighty roadster built for Carroll Shelby in the 1960s, which was considered the ‘King Kong’ of its time,” said Stander. “By adding the modern Godzilla motor and other super car enhancements, the Shelby Cobra Super Snake is once again the king of the road.”
