- 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition Production No. 3 is a remarkable piece of automotive history
- Ford will dedicate proceeds of the sale to the restoration and maintenance of the Ford Heritage Fleet
- Car to be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Auction on October 18 in Scottsdale, Arizona
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., October 13, 2025 – Ford Motor Company is auctioning one of the most revered and coveted supercars in its history, 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition Production No. 3 (Lot #1026) with No Reserve during the Scottsdale Fall Auction, October 15-18, 2025, at WestWorld of Scottsdale. One hundred percent of the hammer price of the Heritage liveried midengined car, which will cross the auction block at approximately 4 PM MDT on Saturday, October 18, will be dedicated to the restoration and maintenance of vehicles in the Ford Heritage Fleet.
“When we announced the Ford Heritage Fleet earlier this year, we knew that we had some amazing vehicles that are duplicates and outside our collecting scope,” said Ted Ryan, Ford’s Heritage and Brand Manager. “Thanks to our partners at Barrett Jackson, we’re selling the 2006 Heritage Edition #3 Ford GT in Epic Orange and Heritage Blue at No Reserve. The sale of this Ford GT is the first of several vehicles that will benefit the amazing cars we identified for permanent retention in the Ford Heritage Fleet.”
The limited-edition Ford GT is powered by a supercharged V8 producing 550 horsepower and 500 ft/lbs of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. When launched, various media outlets reported that the Ford GT went 0-60 in 3.4 seconds and achieved an 11.2 second quarter mile, while having a top speed of over 200 mph.
Only 4,038 Ford GTs were produced between 2005 and 2006; these limited production numbers made it a highly sought-after vehicle. For the iconic supercar’s final send off, Ford developed the Heritage Package in Epic Orange and Heritage Blue for the 2006 model year. The Heritage paint livery remembers the JW Automotive/American Gulf Oil-sponsored Le Mans-winning Ford GT racer.
The $13,000 option appeared on just 343 cars because of the time and effort it took to paint the intricate design and multiple colors on the car. While the four white ‘roundels’ on the vehicle were painted, the Heritage Package came with a box of black vinyl numbers (0-9) that were shipped with the car, allowing customers to apply the number of their choice. The unique paint scheme of the Heritage Package – one of the most memorable looks in Ford racing history – make it the most desirable and sought after Ford GT version today.
Ford GT Production No. 3., stands as the earliest Heritage Edition to ever be released to the public. The 2006 model year car was solely owned and used by Ford Motor Company. Finished in the Heritage livery, it pays tribute to Ford’s endurance racing legacy. Included with the sale is a Certificate of Authenticity and a scanned “Build Book” showing the step-by-step construction of the car.
The story of Ford begins in a garage, with Henry Ford’s creation of the Quadricycle at his home in 1896. Now, 129 years later, Ford is celebrating that legacy with its Heritage Fleet in Dearborn.
“Before 2024, Ford heritage vehicles, a collection the company owns and maintains, were scattered across the globe, lacking a centralized structure,” said Ryan. “At the request of Ford CEO Jim Farley, I began to search for heritage vehicles already in our possession to understand the breadth of our collection. We created the Ford Heritage Fleet as a valuable resource for designers and engineers to shape the future by drawing inspiration from the best of the company’s past.”
The Ford Heritage Collection documents the history of the company, its employees, key innovations, design breakthroughs, racing milestones and its role in popular culture. It also serves as an inspiration at Ford when creating the next generation of vehicles.
“Opening Ford’s Heritage Fleet allows us to share a tangible piece of our performance history directly with the enthusiasts who cherish it most,” said Ryan. “This 2006 Ford GT is more than just a car; it’s a rolling embodiment of our racing heritage. It is an opportunity for someone to own a piece of history and help support the preservation of Ford Motor Company’s incredible legacy.”
