Oceanside, Calif. — July 22, 2026 — The SoCal headquarters for MagnaFlow will host an epic event on July 26, 2026, with the cast, crew and enthusiasts of DRIFTER, an upcoming film written, directed by and starring Fast & Furious actor Sung Kang. MagnaFlow teamed up with Kang to create a celebration of car culture and promote the new movie with a display of over 100 iconic cars ranging from Elite JDM builders to YouTubers, Pro drift and others in the genre. Open to the public and free to attend, the day will feature live Q&A sessions with cast and crew, along with a showing of the movie trailer and several meet and greet sessions with Sung Kang throughout the event.
“MagnaFlow has embraced all forms of motorsports, from offroad to drag racing, sports cars to street cars since the company was founded 45 years ago,” said Rich Waitas, Corporate Relations at MagnaFlow Group. “When we heard the initial rumblings about this movie and its message, we knew we wanted to help bring cars, film fans and the automotive community together. This event is a small part of our desire to celebrate the thrill of motorsports with fellow enthusiasts and Sung’s passion for the community.”
DRIFTER highlights authentic automotive culture, moving away from CGI-heavy Hollywood racing by utilizing real race cars, professional drift drivers and live drift events. Kang stars as the lead character “Tree”, alongside a cast that includes Tamara Braun, Gregory Cruz and James Pumphrey, as well as the real grassroots drifting community with legendary stunt drivers like FD champion Dai Yoshihara.
In the film, Tree is a solitary racetrack janitor who is trapped in a forgotten desert town. Though he has a great gift for drifting, Tree is haunted by a tragic past. Given a single chance to compete at a pro drifting event, Tree discovers his raw talent is useless without the one thing he’s always avoided – connection with others. Under a hardened mentor, Tree must learn to trust his found family and transform his untamed, lonely art into a dangerous dance of partnership, or be consumed and controlled by the past he’s desperate to escape.
“Great motorsports films, like Le Mans and F1 used the backdrop of motorsports to tell important stories about the human spirit,” said Kang. “We chose drifting for our film because it is the most reachable form of motorsports for our hero and his personal journey. DRIFTER is a metaphor for personal redemption and a love letter to the authentic car community.”
Principal photography for Kang’s drift-culture film took just 22 days to shoot. Written, directed, and starring Kang, the indie action movie relied heavily on the automotive community for cars and locations rather than traditional studio budgets. It continues to do so while building awareness of the upcoming film with events and appearances worldwide, like the one at MagnaFlow.
MagnaFlow’s HQ will transform for the event so enthusiasts can hear directly from Sung Kang during a special DRIFTER Q&A session hosted by automotive personality Jarod DeAnda, who also starred in the film. Guests will enjoy an inside look at the upcoming film and inspiration behind the project.
Beyond the stage, the event will feature a curated collection of JDM and import vehicles, movie tribute cars and iconic feature vehicles. Movie supporter Forza Motorsport will have a live simulator allowing drivers the opportunity to experience some of the latest in vehicle dynamics in the digital world of Forza Horizon 6. Attendees can also catch up with the latest in tire tech with Yokohama. As host of the event MagnaFlow, will showcase its professional off-road race team Camburg Racing with a spec race truck and support vehicles. MagnaFlow will display its latest performance exhaust. The event will begin at 2 pm and wrap up at 7 pm.
